STEDELIJK MUSEUM AMSTERDAM – STEDELIJK MUSEUM ACCESSIBLE TO EVERYONE

© 2023 Stedelijk Museum Amsterdam

At the Stedelijk Museum everyone can discover and experience modern and contemporary art and design. But a museum only comes to life when there is interaction between art and visitors. The Stedelijk Museum wants to be an inclusive museum and make interaction with art accessible to everyone. That is why, thanks to the support of Fonds 1999, various educational programs were developed, and adjustments were made to improve the (physical) accessibility of the museum. For example, guided tours and a video tour were developed in NGT (Dutch Sign Language). The Stedelijk Museum also started to organize low stimulus visiting hours for adults with a low tolerance for stimuli, for whom a museum visit during regular times is not possible. Finally, a special educational package was developed, aimed at, for example, students with a language-speech disorder. This teaching material for deaf and hard of hearing students is the first art education offering for this target group in the Netherlands.
